How to Cancel Airtable & Stop All Charges (The Right Way)

Frustrated by Airtable's confusing per-user, per-workspace billing? You're not alone. This is the definitive 2026 guide to correctly downgrading your workspaces to a free plan, stopping all charges, and safely deleting your Airtable account for good.

The Golden Rule: You Cancel Workspaces, Not Your Account

CRITICAL: Airtable's billing is tied to individual Workspaces, not your user account. To stop payments, you don't cancel your subscription. Instead, you must find each paid Workspace you own and manually Downgrade it to the Free plan. Deleting your account *before* doing this will not stop the charges.

How to Stop Payments & Delete Your Account

You must complete Part 1 for every paid workspace you own before moving to Part 2.

Part 1: Downgrade Each Workspace to Free

This is the action that actually stops the payments.

  1. 1. Log in to Airtable on a desktop web browser.
  2. 2. On your home screen, click on the name of a paid workspace you own.
  3. 3. Click Workspace settings from the dropdown menu.
  4. 4. In the settings menu, go to the Billing tab.
  5. 5. Click the Change plan button. You will be shown the different plan options.
  6. 6. Select the Downgrade to Free option and follow the prompts to confirm.
  7. 7. Repeat these steps for every single paid workspace you own.

Part 2: Delete Your User Account (Optional)

Only do this after you have downgraded all workspaces to free.

  1. 1. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. 2. Select Account from the dropdown menu.
  3. 3. Scroll to the very bottom of the Account page.
  4. 4. Click the red link that says Delete your Airtable user account.
  5. 5. Follow the final confirmation steps to permanently delete your account.

Insider Hacks & Strategies

1

Getting a Refund for Accidental Charges

Airtable's per-seat billing is notorious for causing accidental charges (e.g., inviting a collaborator and getting a surprise bill). While their policy is prorated credits, users report that support is often understanding. If you get an accidental charge, immediately remove the extra user and email support@airtable.com, explain it was a mistake, and politely request a one-time cash refund.

2

Leaving a Team? Transfer Ownership, Don't Delete Your Account.

If you are the sole owner of a shared workspace but are leaving the company or project, do not delete your account. This can delete the workspace for everyone. Instead, go to Workspace settings and use the Transfer ownership feature to hand control over to another collaborator.

3

Cancelling Mobile Subscriptions

If you subscribed to Airtable through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (less common), you cannot cancel on the Airtable website. You must cancel the subscription directly in your iPhone's Settings > Subscriptions or in the Google Play Store > Subscriptions menu.

Pre-Cancellation Safety Checklist

Deleting Your Account is NOT Cancelling

CRITICAL: We can't repeat this enough. Billing is tied to the workspace. If you delete your user account while still owning a paid workspace, the workspace lives on, and the charges will continue. You MUST downgrade the workspace to Free first.

You are the Workspace "Owner"

VERY IMPORTANT: Only the designated Owner of a workspace can make billing changes like downgrading the plan. If you are just a collaborator, you do not have permission to cancel the subscription.

Export Your Data Before Downgrading

The Free plan has much lower limits on records and storage. Before you downgrade, export any critical bases as CSV files. After you downgrade, you may lose access to data that exceeds the free plan's limits.

I deleted my Airtable account but was still charged. Why?

This is the most critical and confusing part of Airtable. Billing is tied to a *workspace*, not your user account. If you were the owner of a paid workspace and deleted your account without first downgrading the workspace to a free plan, the workspace continues to exist and accrue charges.

How do I actually cancel my Airtable subscription?

You don't 'cancel' in the traditional sense. Instead, you must go into the settings for each paid workspace you own and 'Downgrade' it to the free plan. This is the action that stops all future billing.

Can I get a refund from Airtable?

Airtable's official policy is to offer prorated credits, not cash refunds. However, users report that if you contact their support team (support@airtable.com) promptly after an accidental charge (e.g., adding a user by mistake), they are often willing to issue a one-time refund.

How do I delete my Airtable account after I've stopped the payments?

After you have downgraded all of your paid workspaces to the free plan, you can go to your main 'Account' page. At the very bottom, you will find the 'Delete your Airtable user account' link to permanently erase your account.
